Cub Scout at Jamboree

Never heard of Jamboree? Or maybe you know all about it, but your kids are still in Cub Scouts.

Here’s what you need to know: there are Cub Scout-friendly activities available for families to enjoy at the 2017 National Jamboree. The secret is landing a visitor pass to explore the site of the Summit Center between July 21 and July 27. This isn’t a campout. It’s a chance to spend a day visiting actual Jamboree exhibits and activities.

If the excitement of this potential family trip is lost on you, read on to learn why this is a big deal.

What is the 2017 National Jamboree? How Can I Get a Visitor Pass?

The 2017 National Jamboree will be a huge gathering of Scouts at West Virginia’s Summit Bechtel Reserve in late July. Older Scouts look forward to this tradition – which only happens once every four years – as a time to camp out with Scouts from all over the world, enjoy world-class entertainment, and most importantly, take in all the thrills this high-adventure base has to offer.

And while Cub Scouts can look forward to experiencing all that a few years down the road, they can even get in on some of the adventure now.

The 2017 visitor pass allows entire families of all ages to step onto the Jamboree site and see the Summit Center. Plus, with a visitor pass, Cub Scouts, friends, and family can explore displays, exhibits, and adventure activities.

Which Jamboree activities can Cub Scouts explore? Check out a few below:

  • Fishing
  • Biking (if attendee demonstrates he can ride a bike and fit into safety equipment)
  • Skateboarding (if attendee demonstrates he can fit into safety equipment)
  • Exploring STEM exhibits
  • Meeting the Boys’ Life team
  • Seeing older Scouts and Eagle Scouts in action: #ScoutGoals

Cub Scouts will even receive Passport Journals to track each Jamboree spot they see and reflect on their visit. With this souvenir in tow, experiencing Scouting’s biggest event is something your Scout will remember his whole life.
